"President Bashar al-Assad is travelling to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today to attend an emergency summit to discuss the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, which is causing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, resulting in hundreds of casualties and injuries every day," the Syrian presidency said in a statement issued last night.
