Making statements at the RFEF Extraordinary General Assembly yesterday, Federation President Rubiales stated that he would not resign and underlined that there was mutual consent in his inappropriate behaviour to footballer Hermoso. Hermoso, who made a statement on his social media account, said: "I would like to make it clear that the conversation mentioned by Luis Rubiales never took place and, above all, his kiss was not consensual." At the end of his written statement, Hermoso declared that he would not play for the national team 'as long as the current managers remain in office'.
BOYCOTT DECISION BY 81 FOOTBALLERS
The Spanish Professional Footballers' Association (Futpro) announced in a written statement that 81 footballers will not play in the Spanish national team until the current federation leaders are dismissed. "We would like to state that if the current leaders continue, none of the players who signed this letter will play in the National Team," Futpro said in its statement, along with the names of 81 footballers.
RFEF WE ANALYSED THE PHOTOS, THE PRESIDENT IS NOT LYING
The Spanish federation RFEF stated yesterday that they were analysing the photos of the incident and said: "We will present for the first time with this statement that the facts presented by our President are absolutely true and that he is not lying."
WHAT HAPPENED?
Spain and England faced each other for the final of the FIFA Women's World Cup on 20 August 2023, and Spain, who defeated England, won the cup. During the celebrations, Federation President Luis Rubiales kissed national team player Jenni Hermoso on the lips and the incident was reflected in the world press as an inappropriate gesture. Rubiales explained that the behaviour was consensual, but Hermoso stated that she did not consent. On the other hand, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez made the statement "Rubiales' apology is not enough" and FIFA announced that it had opened an investigation into the incident.
