Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met Monday with Valentina Matviyenko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, who is on an official visit to the country.
Following the one-on-one meeting, Speaker Valentina Matviyenko presented the Order of Friendship of the Russian Federation to Speaker Sahiba Gafarova.
During the meeting with the participation of delegations, the discussions revolved around the issues of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia across political, economic, humanitarian and other domains.
Underscoring the role of relations between the two parliaments, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova shared her views on various aspects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and emphasized the importance of the efforts of parliamentarians in this regard. The sides also highlighted the role of the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan and the Federal Assembly of Russia.
Noting that the 100th anniversary of the outstanding political and statesman Heydar Aliyev was also widely celebrated in Russia, Speaker Valentina Matviyenko highlighted the unparalleled services of this great personality to Azerbaijan and its people.
Valentina Matviyenko also praised Azerbaijan’s growing role at the international level under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. She underlined that Azerbaijan successfully conducts international events, forums promoting intercultural dialogue, along with implementing major economic projects. Matviyenko hailed Azerbaijan’s successful organization of COP29, which, despite all the pressures, gathered a large number of participants, achieving important results, and conveyed her congratulations on this occasion. She highlighted the importance of the Parliamentary Meeting organized as part of COP29.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
