Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met Monday with Chairman of the Shura Council of the Sultanate of Oman Khalid bin Hilal bin Nasser Al Maawali, who is in Azerbaijan to participate in the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA).
During the meeting, the sides expressed confidence in the productivity of the upcoming plenary session, noting that important issues would be discussed during the event. They described APA as a key platform for parliamentary diplomacy, bringing together legislative assemblies from across Asia. The meeting also underscored that such platforms contribute to the development of discussions and dialogue between the legislative bodies of member states.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova emphasized the fruitful cooperation and mutual support between Azerbaijan and Oman within key international organizations such as the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement.
The meeting also highlighted the cooperation within the framework of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, established on the initiative of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
Khalid Nasser Al Maawali reaffirmed his country’s support for Azerbaijan in the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement’s Parliamentary Network, as well as in other international organizations. He expressed gratitude for the invitation to visit Azerbaijan and take part in the event, as well as for the warm hospitality extended to him.
Khalid Nasser Al Maawali hailed the fact that Oman had become a full member of the APA during Azerbaijan’s presidency. He expressed his confidence that the forthcoming 15th plenary session, to be held in Baku, would make a significant contribution to the organization’s future activities.
The parties also commended the development of the parliamentary ties between Azerbaijan and Oman particularly in recent years, emphasizing that reciprocal visits and interactions play an important role in fostering these relations.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual concern.
