Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan`s Parliament, met with the Turkish parliamentary delegation led by Fuat Oktay, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly.
Emphasizing the importance of the international parliamentary conference on “Parliamentarism: Traditions and Perspectives”, Sahiba Gafarova noted that the event will focus on the role of the parliaments in the political life of the countries, and further reinforcing cooperation.
The meeting underscored the solidarity and mutual support demonstrated by the two countries on all matters. They noted that these relations have reached their highest level today, thanks to the political will and joint efforts of the heads of state. The signing of the Shusha Declaration has further strengthened these relations. The Azerbaijan-Türkiye alliance was described as a crucial factor for regional stability and security.
Fuat Oktay congratulated Azerbaijan on the successful holding of snap parliamentary elections, mentioning that a large delegation from Türkiye had observed the elections. He expressed his pride in seeing the Azerbaijani flag waving in the liberated territories,
Noting that Azerbaijan and Türkiye enjoy high-level interparliamentary collaboration, they mentioned notable contribution of the contacts between the parliamentary speakers, friendship groups and MPs to bolstering relations.
The parties particularly noted the importance of mutual support and joint action on international parliamentary platforms. Fuat Oktay criticized the resolution of the PACE regarding the Azerbaijani delegation.
The meeting also focused on excellent organization of COP29 in Baku.
