Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır answered the questions of press members after the cabinet meeting. Regarding the Teknofest held in Ankara, Kacır said, "We have realised the biggest event of Ankara. There were more than 940 thousand participants, close to 1 million. Since there was heavy rainfall on Sunday, a higher figure was not reached, but it was the biggest event in Ankara and in the history of Ankara. Now, on 27 September, the last Teknofest of this year will be held in Izmir. We had said that we would organise it in three big cities in 2023. Of course, we are very happy. It makes us very happy that both young people and the society of all age groups embrace this work so much, feel themselves as the owners of national technology and come there with these feelings. The fact that our President is with us as he is every year, and that he gives awards to our champions shows how much importance the Turkish State attaches to this issue. I think 14 ministers participated in Teknofest. It was probably the organisation in which ministers showed the most interest and participation. Our President is the same way. Let's see if we can break a new record in Izmir."
Kacır, who also took part in President Erdoğan's visit to Russia, said about cooperation with Russia in the field of industry and technology, "Of course, Russian business people have important investments in Turkey. They also have important investments in the industrial sector. Those investments will continue. We will continue to encourage and support them. There is actually a very intense investment interest in Turkey in Russia. More strategic co-operation is also possible in some areas with Russia. We want to increase cooperation in areas where our mutual capabilities are strong. Of course, some negotiations are being held in the defence industry."
On the question about the promise of free internet and tax-free telephones for young people, Minister Kacır said, "Some evaluations are being made. It will be announced when it is finalised. Turkey is a young country, our average age is 33. We have a very young population. There are millions of students in universities in formal education. There are some promises we have made to all these young people. We have an aim to fulfil these promises step by step. It has been a few months since the election. But Mr President instructs us and those concerned to keep all our promises as soon as possible. Normally, we have a 5-year term; but we do not intend to postpone, we intend to keep our promises as soon as possible."
