Turkiye’s Energy Minister: Gas supply to Nakhchivan to begin soon

Turkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, has announced that the supply of natural gas to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) will commence soon.

Speaking to journalists during his visit to the Russian Federation, Bayraktar emphasized that, following Bulgaria and Greece, Turkiye will soon start delivering natural gas to Nakhchivan.

"Gas transportation to Nakhchivan will be carried out via the Igdir-Nakhchivan pipeline, whose construction has already been completed," the minister stated.

Bayraktar noted that Turkiye currently receives gas through 14 different transit points. Addressing the topic of Turkmen gas purchases, he confirmed that an agreement with Ashgabat has been reached for a swap deal via Iran.

"Turkmen gas will help ease Turkiye’s financial burden related to gas imports. Initially, the plan is to purchase gas volumes sufficient for 1.5 million subscribers," he explained. He also described the construction of the Trans-Caspian pipeline as an "ideal option".
