UNESCO celebrates International Mother Language Day

21 February 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of International Mother Language Day at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

Co-organized by the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to UNESCO and the UNESCO`s Education Sector, an exhibition dedicated to International Mother Language Day was held, with the participation of countries like Azerbaijan, Paraguay, India, Ukraine, Luxembourg, Russia, Peru, Chile, Nicaragua, South Korea and El Salvador.

The stand of the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to UNESCO featured Azerbaijani alphabet, postcards, various books, and national souvenirs. The visitors were provided with detailed information about the history, culture, and language of Azerbaijan.

The exhibition followed with a concert program. The exhibition will run until February 25.

The idea to celebrate International Mother Language Day was the initiative of Bangladesh. It was approved at the 1999 UNESCO General Conference and has been observed throughout the world since 2000. UNESCO believes in the importance of cultural and linguistic diversity for sustainable societies.
