Japan hosts concert honoring Gara Garayev’s musical legacy

A concert-lecture titled “Acquaintance with the Music of Azerbaijani Composer Gara Garayev” was held on February 9 at Yamaha Music Yokohama Minato Mirai, one of Japan’s largest music centers. This marks the first-ever musical event in YAMAHA’s history dedicated to the works of an Azerbaijani composer.

The project was initiated and performed by Gulnara Safarova, an Azerbaijani pianist residing in Japan. The concert was organized by YAMAHA with the support of Zen-On Music Co., Ltd, one of Japan’s oldest and largest music publishers.

In her address, Gulnara Safarova highlighted key milestones in Azerbaijani classical music history, emphasizing the rich musical legacy of Gara Garayev, a world-renowned Azerbaijani composer whose works are deeply rooted in Azerbaijani folk traditions.

Her performance of Gara Garayev’s piano pieces received a standing ovation from the Japanese audience.
